Pendulum, or Old Women's Tales

Dear Notwolf,
This is what I wrote to you on April 1st, 2009, and it was not an April Fools Day joke:
"You get a deal - if I ever publish this (or anything at all worth being called a book - you get the dedication, nom de plume included! You started it, I would not have pressed a key without you, so be prepared to fight the consequences:)) Fairytale thriller with elements of spying for whomever the heroes find fit, family feuds, nothing there for the kids, but no explicit scenes, as I am bad at them, generations in trouble and trouble in generations, loads of sugar sap, exotic locations and good-looking women. Strange objects hidden in unexpected places, documents that do not burn and graveyards that cannot be entered, mysticism, ghost of the past distant and not so, mmmm, what did I miss? Aaa, national folklore, dances, storytelling,
bells and whistles. Piece of cake, icing dripping around and sticking the keyboard shut!"

So I keep my word:

This work is dedicated to Notwolf, my first ever reader - and to the one-over-the-shoulder, she knows who!

Dear all,

On the vast plains of the Internet at the end of March 2009 I met a writer as kind as she is talented. We found a bunch of common despite being born and raised on two different continents and two different languages, two different fates and two different social systems. One day Notwolf said she would be glad to hear more about the customs and history of Bulgaria - and a bit about my family. She said I would be glad if I dig a bit in the past. Little she knew how glad I actually am I followed her request. For it has been a journey in the past of my family history and in the history of my fatherland - a fascinating one that brought me to better understanding of where I came from and where I am heading. Fear not, the following is not an autobiography of any kind. It is a story that keeps all the bits and pieces I would not want to forget. It is a fairytale (admittedly a fairly long one). Yet like one of its heroes, I do not believe in coincidences and believe in fairytales. Hope you will enjoy the reading.

Cordially yours
